Synopsis:

The diversity of domain of artistic expressions and the semantic plurality could makeus believe that “CARNE e PAUS” (“Meat and Sticks”) is the theme of a collectiveexhibition. It is in fact an individual exhibition by the artist Pedro Alegria, who surprisesus by the ease with which he moves from the palette to the pencil, from the computerto the foundry, in a continuous experimentation of the “medium” that best conveys aspecific thought. It is difficult to find all this versatility gathered in the same author,who sometimes needs to draw a body with all the detail of its musculature, other timeshe hands the drawing over to a digital programme, “freezing” the images thatcorrespond to his aesthetic search; sometimes he needs to resort to the exuberance ofcolour, other times he opts for the simplicity of registration: black lines on a whitebackground.

 

“CARNE e PAUS” is also the evocation of life and game, in the possible association of “PAUS” (“Clubs”) to a deck of cards. The unpredictability of life, behaviour, art, thechoice of a card at a given moment, assuming a certain frame of references, allowsthis reading of the imponderable, like in a game, in that “clash between control andlack of control”, explored by the artist.
